India’s North American coal imports highest since 2015, seen up further on ban

We all are in coal business and we always follow domestic market and international news to make a correct decision.

Earlier in this week, I have read a news report on pet coke and demand on US coal article published by Reuters and same has been republished by ET & Money control. You may refer below link to view news.

Import Data

India’s coal imports from North America NOT 2.1 million tonnes in November. It was only 1.47 Million tonnes. Please refer below vessel wise data. (You may correct me if I missed any vessels arrived in Nov 2017). Thermal Coal 00.83 Million Tons & Met Coal 00.64 Million Tons

Secondly, they have mentioned that Indian imports of North American coal, including supplies from Canada, stand at about 1.5 million tonnes from Nov. 1 to 20. Again I want to rectify that India has imported only 1.13 Million tons coal from North America (Including Canada) from Nov.1 to 20. Please refer below vessel wise data. (You may correct me if I missed any vessels arrived in Nov 2017). Thermal Coal 00.74 Million Tons & Met Coal 00.39 Million Tons

Pricing

Now will talk about the pricing of which reporter has mentioned in article. As per their analysis ”A tonne of U.S. coal around New Delhi now costs 8,200-8,300 rupees ($126-$128) on online coal marketplace CoalShastra, up from 7,100-7,200 rupees two weeks ago”.

Here I want to rectify that this Price is for only US Origin NAPP Coal (6900 NAR). Don’t confuse if you are selling US Origin other (6200 NAR / 5900 NAR), US origin MET coal or Canadian MET coal. There is different price for all these

Secondly, 8200-8300 Price is offered by some of traders online and this price is Ex-Port Kandla/Tuna/Mundra. If you calculate cost at Delhi, you need to add Transportation which approx. 2500 INR per Ton. So, Actually, A tonne of U.S. coal around New Delhi now costs 10,700-10,800 rupees approx.

If your exporter of US coal and offering to India market, please note that this price is equivalent CIF 108-110 USD (Don’t confused with $126-$128). Please follow cost table for details.
